Choose the job before the battery

A station earns its place when you need compatible mains-powered equipment or more stored energy than a suitable USB power bank provides. List the essential devices, their input requirements and the time you want to cover. Keep that list short enough to recharge and maintain. A battery reserved for a router and a lamp has a different job from one intended for cooking appliances.

Watt-hours describe nominal stored energy. Watts describe how much power can be supplied at once. An appliance can exceed the output limit even when the battery is full. Motors and compressors also need a starting-load check. Use the ordinary continuous output rating, then read the manufacturer's separate surge and boost conditions.

Three sizes and connection arrangements from our UK comparison
ModelPublished capacity / continuous AC outputDecision to make
EcoFlow RIVER 3245 Wh / 300 WDoes a smaller, easier-to-carry station cover your limited load?
Jackery Explorer 1000 v21,070 Wh / 1,500 WDo you need more stored energy and two UK mains sockets?
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus1,024 Wh / 1,800 WDoes your equipment need the higher output or different ports?

These are manufacturer figures reproduced from the full power station comparison, whose sources were checked on 30 October 2026. They are not measured runtimes. Total AC output is shared across the sockets; extra sockets do not multiply it. Check the exact UK version because similarly named models have different specifications.

Compare the whole setup

The Jackery versus EcoFlow model comparison covers weight, charging modes, solar inputs and battery-cycle claims. A cycle figure is incomplete without its remaining-capacity threshold. A fast recharge claim also depends on conditions and may require a particular app setting.

Decide where the station will live and who must carry it. Check the included lead, ventilation space, moisture restrictions and access to controls. Solar panels need compatible electrical limits and connectors, and winter collection varies. Do not assume a panel bundle will refill the station each day.

Make a useful estimate

Use the runtime calculator with your actual load and a clear efficiency assumption. Allow for conversion losses and a changing load. A fridge's label wattage is not its daily energy use. The power bank or power station guide helps if you only need USB charging.

Connect devices as the manual permits. Never feed a house circuit by plugging a station into a wall socket. For powered medical equipment, agree the exact backup arrangement with the supplier and clinical team; a consumer UPS label does not establish suitability. Read the medical equipment planning guide before relying on a battery for care.
